HISTORY OF BARANGAY HELEN

Historically, Barangay Helen was once known as Datag. It earned this name due to its landscape, resembling a valley surrounded by water and dense forests. Towering trees like Bangkal, Dita, Combat, and Daulot thrived here, while nipa palms were also abundant in the area.

Today, this community is known as Barangay Helen, a name bestowed in honor of the late Helen L. Omictin, who served as the first lady of the province during Governor Eulogio Omictin’s administration.

Barangay Helen is one of the twenty-three (23) barangays under the Municipal Government of Larena, a municipality under the Province of Siquijor.

Based on the Election Registration Board Hearing as of October 14, 2024, the barangay has 1,109 of registered voters; 563 are males and 546 females. It has seven (7) total no. of precincts.
